Ashe County, NC – Mr. Tom Roberts, aka T.R. Ashe County High School Educator and Coach sadly passed away on Monday, February 13, 2023. Peter Eller, a resident of Ashe County, North Carolina announced the passing of Tom Roberts, Eller described T.R. as a true gentleman- an educator, coach, and community leader. The circumstances surrounding Mr. Roberts’s death are currently unknown at the time of this article.
Peter Eller wrote, “Today Ashe County lost a true gentleman- an educator, coach, and community leader- whether you knew him as Mr. Roberts-TR- Tom or Coach he has touched the lives of so many of Ashe Counties youngsters, be it in the classroom or on the football field he was a true inspiration to all that knew him- Above all was his love for his family and the farm at Rich Hill- Ole Pecks hunting them golden grouse now. Was proud to have known him.”
Trevor Hartzog a former student of Ashe County High School also took to social media to mourn the passing of the coach and educator. He said, “Today I want to dedicate a few words to Mr. Tom Roberts, or better known as T.R. This one-of-a-kind man had a passion to fill our young minds with knowledge, and that wasn’t just a “9 to 5” for him.
He added, “You could tell he gained fulfillment from sharing his knowledge of not just the curriculum of Biology 101, but life lessons and earned wisdom of a full lead life. I regret not knowing him beyond the hallways of ACHS and he will truly be missed… I feel pained and regretful for the youth of Ashe County that will never have “T.R.’s class” as we did.”

Ashe County High School is a public school of secondary education for grades 9–12 located in West Jefferson, North Carolina, US. Ashe High is situated in the far northwestern county of North Carolina. It is the only high school in the Ashe County Schools system.
