St. Louis, MO. – Molly Zerjal has been identified as the Missouri woman who was killed in a tragic car St. Louis accident on February 24, 2023. Molly Kathleen Zerjal was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, legendary karaoke performer, underrated dancer, LaCroix connoisseur, Elvis aficionado, and everyone’s funniest friend. She passed away from the injuries sustained from the incident. She was 35 years old.
Who was Molly Zerjal?
No one like Molly has ever existed and never will. And although Molly’s life was brutally cut short, she lived each day to the fullest. Molly, who was born to parents Sue and John on June 9, 1987, at Belleville Memorial Hospital, overcame serious medical issues when she was a young child, spending countless days and nights in and out of surgery at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, a place Molly would cherish for the rest of her life.
She grew up in her hometown of Mascoutah, Illinois with her older brother Doug, who claims Molly liked to play the Angel Child growing up: “I didn’t do anything wrong, did I Mom and Dad?” he says she would ask with a smile anytime Doug got in trouble. Ongoing accusations of parental favoritism (to which Molly always had a witty retort) formed the basis of a loving and endlessly entertaining sibling rivalry.
Molly attended Holy Childhood of Jesus Catholic School before transferring to Mascoutah High School, where she excelled academically and was a leader, singer, and actress. She then continued her education at Carthage College on a full scholarship to study communications. After receiving her degree, Molly spent the majority of her career handling internal and external communications at Buckingham Financial Partners, most recently serving as Knowledge & Materials Manager. Her enormous personality and sharp wit won her lifelong friends at every turn.
Allie Richie a friend of Molly Zerjal for over 30 years released a statement on Facebook following her friend’s death. She wrote;
How on Earth do you begin to summarize 30 years of friendship? How do you properly articulate just how much someone means to you? Questions that have been floating in my head all week. She simply wasn’t just my friend…She was my sister. Sure- she was always there when you needed a laugh and to make you smile but she was also there when you needed a shoulder to cry on, to give you advice or guidance when you felt lost or confused, or to remind you of just how special you are. That’s the thing- she was always so selfless..telling YOU something amazing first and never wanted the attention thrown right back on to her. Sweet Molly- YOU were the special one. A light in this world that now seems so much darker. I would give anything to have you back. I would give anything to hear your laughter…to see your smile…to miss an entire first act of a musical because we’re too busy crying over a bottle of rośe…to just look each other in the eyes and have an entire conversation without saying a word. I will find ways each day to channel your spirit and to find the humor in the mundane. Thank you for allowing me in your life- for keeping me close- for showing me what true friendship is all about. Thank you to the entire Zerjal family for letting me be with you all week and for adopting me as one of your own. That I can’t thank you enough. I will love you forever and always, pal. I am simply heartbroken.
