New Britain, CT – President Zulma R. Toro wrote to the CCSU community on Sunday to inform them of the death of a female student who had been discovered unconscious in a dorm on campus. “This is the kind of heartbreaking news I had hoped I would never have to share during my presidency,” Toro wrote. “Late this morning, a student living in one of our residence halls was found unresponsive. CCSU police responded to the 911 call and began CPR until New Britain Emergency Services took over and transported her to the hospital. I am so very sorry to tell you that she did not make it.”
Police are looking into the details of the student’s demise, according to Toro, who stated that an official cause of death has not yet been established. The student’s name was withheld. Toto stated, “We have spoken with the student’s family to express our sympathies and support.
According to Toro, she was on campus Sunday together with Vice President of Student Affairs Kellie Danso, Chief Operations Officer Sal Cintorino, the Residential Life team, and the counseling staff.
The roommates, friends, and fellow residents of our students’ dorms are being met with and given assistance, according to Toro.
The president also mentioned that students could reach out at any moment to speak with a professional by calling the counseling and wellness team at (860) 832-1926.
When the time is right, Toto will provide further details. In the meantime, “please stay safe.”
