Who was Desiree Hirschy?
Desiree was born in 1985 to her parents, George and Donna Wissman, in Long Island, New York. From the moment she entered this world, she lit up their lives in a way they didn’t know was possible. In a few short years, she would be the amazing elder sibling and role model to her brother Gregory and sister Erica. Growing up in Holbrook, New York, the three siblings formed a bond that continued through adolescence and into adulthood and it became evident that Desiree would always surround herself with those who loved and cared for her.
The McConnell family’s children, Christopher, Lisa, and Bobby, helped the three siblings in Holbrook form a close-knit group they called the MW Family. After completing sixth grade, the family relocated to Port Jefferson, New York, where Desiree formed lifetime bonds with an amazing group of women that she would maintain throughout high school, college, and adulthood. These buddies still keep in touch to this day and included Corinne, Lindsay, Amy, Allison, Hali, Audrey, Erica, and Caitlin.

Des was always busy growing up and was a person devoted to her commitments, ranging from her career as a soccer player to the lifelong friendships she held close. She was a part of the Sachem Flames travel soccer team for many years where her toughness and scoring abilities helped the girls develop into talented soccer players.
Led by head coaches Luis and Aris, there were many tournaments and trips made throughout her soccer career as the Flames traveled around the country including to Minnesota and Disney World. Their toughness always struck fear in their opponents and they would be quickly titled “the Team from New York”. Desiree again formed tight bonds with her teammates not only in the hard work on the field but off the field as well whether it be at the hotel the team was staying at or an offseason team party at her teammate Theresa’s swimming pool.
Hirschy Boys Scholarships GoFundMe, which purpose is for the future education and sports interests of Desiree’s kids was created. Desiree’s kids Jackson a 10-year-old and Ryder 8-year-old were the BEST thing that ever happened to their mom. She made sure they were in as many activities as possible, hiking, traveling, throwing their “school is out for summer” class parties, etc.

We lost a very special person, far too soon. Desiree was one of the most kindhearted, funny, full of life person, I have ever met. We are all in deep mourning at this time and will continue to feel her loss. But we need to come together as family, friends, and a community to support Brad and their 2 sweet boys, Jackson & Ryder. My memories with Desiree will stay with me forever but Brad, Jackson, and Ryder are my connection to her here on earth. I will always be here for them with a full heart and open arms.
