Traer, IA – Nick Riley, a resident of Traer, Iowa, who has been a devoted member of the Traer Fire Department for the past 15 years unexpectedly passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023. Nick was a Past President of The Iowa Fire Fighters Association as announced by his brother James M. Shutts on Facebook on Friday. James who was also a Past President of the Iowa Firefighters Association and also Retired at Benton County Emergency Management made his brother’s death public by releasing a statement. He wrote, “God speed the soul of my Brother Nick Riley Past President of The Iowa Fire Fighters Association He passed away this afternoon.”
We were unable to confirm Nick Riley’s cause of death at the time this story was published. A statement from Nick’s family has not yet been made public pertaining to this. He was decribed as a great individual who has a good heart and a great personality.

Traer Fire Department released a statement on Saturday through their official Facebook page;
“We are saddened to report that the time has come to lay one of our brothers to rest. Nick Riley has been a devoted member of the Traer Fire Department for the past 15 years. He also served in the Iowa Firefighter’s Association as president volunteering countless hours of his time and energy to serve others in both organizations. We will always cherish the time we served beside him and will truly miss him. Fly high brother.”
