Kokomo, Indiana – In response to a report of a two-vehicle traffic accident, Tipton County Deputies were sent to the intersection of C.R. 900 West and C.R. 300 North on February 6, 2023, at 3:02 pm. Deputies found that one driver was hurt but conscious when they arrived. The other driver was unresponsive after being removed from the car. The driver was given rapid medical care by deputies until other emergency personnel got on the site, but he had already passed away from his wounds.
The investigation at the incident revealed that Oscar Castorena, 39, of Kokomo, Indiana, was traveling west in his 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck as he approached the junction of C.R. 900 W. Mr. Castorena struck the passenger side of a northbound 2007 Toyota being driven by Tracey Gabbert, 43, of Kokomo, Indiana, after failing to stop at the stop sign.
Mr. Castorena was thrown from the car because he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. At the scene, Mr. Castorena was declared dead. Mrs. Gabbert was taken to St. Vincent in Indianapolis with injuries that could prove fatal.
