An Australian actress who appeared in a short film that won an award in 2021 passed away unexpectedly. The leading lady in the coming-of-age movie Beautiful They, Sariah Saibu, passed away on January 30. Her devastated family acknowledged Sariah’s passing; she was also a model.
Cassandra Colvin, Sariah’s aunt, posted the following as a memorial to the actress: “We lost Sariah this morning, our sweet Sariah.
“RIP darling – all our love always,” I struggle to put into words the sorrow her family and I are feeling right now ”
Meanwhile, a fundraising page for Sariah’s funeral, described the actress as “the Queen, the Karaoke King, the Star, and the Icon”. The fundraiser is helping to cover the cost of two memorials for the actress to celebrate her life.
It added: “The Princess of not only Perth but Darwin. The protagonist of our lives and the gem of our hearts.
“Sariah made everlasting impressions on her community, which has been felt and greatly appreciated by her family and closest friends.”
Meanwhile, friends and loved ones shared memories in the comments.
One person who shared their sympathies wrote: “Love to the people closest to Sariah. A unique, sparkling, and funny little monster. We’ll all miss her very much xxx”.

Sariah played Violet with Australian actor Morgan Davies, who played Blue, in the coming-of-age film Beautiful They. Both the Melbourne International Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City screened the film.
Beautiful According to IMDB, They is a “heartwarming queer surf-romance about the intricacy of gender and the sanctuary found in being fully seen.”
The film received awards in 2022 for Best Film at Queer Screen Mardi Gras and Best Australian Short Film from the City of Melbourne. Cloudy Rhodes, who directed the movie, received Best Director at the Australian Directors Guild that same year.
