Atlanta, GA – Bishop James Morton a Bishop at New Beginning Full Gospel Baptist Church sadly passed away on Saturday night February 11, 2023. We learned about this from the tributes that friends and family members put on social media. Bishop Morton was a longtime resident of Atlanta, Georgia. The cause of death has not been known at the time of this article.
Bishop Paul Morton posted on Twitter this morning that his brother has gone home to be with the Lord last night. He wrote, “This Man, My Big Brother, My Mentor My Best Friend, My Hero, My Pastor Bishop James Morton. I Really Looked Up 2 Him. Went Home to Be With the Lord Late Saturday Night. Please Lift Up My Family, His Great Church, and All of the lives he touched. We Will Get Thru This In Jesusā Name.”

Bishop Paul Morton was formerly an organist before a preacher. He was born and brought up in Windsor, Ontario. He was described as a perfect combination of āSpiritā & substance. The official page of Pastor E. Dewey Smith, Jr. wrote on Facebook, “I started listening to him when I was 16 years old! He was a perfect combination of āSpiritā & substance. His journey inspired me, from an organist to a preacher, from the musicianās corner to the pulpit!
He added, “He gave me hope for nearly 40 years!! THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER BISHOP JAMES H. MORTON, SR.!!!!!! Please keep his family, Bishop Paul S. Morton, his other siblings, New Beginnings Full Gospel Baptist Church, Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship & the City Of Atlanta church community in your prayers!!!!”
